How it works

Three steps, and it's pre-tax.

Truemed partners with licensed practitioners to determine whether your Lean On purchase qualifies as a medical expense. If it does, you get a Letter of Medical Necessity — the document your HSA/FSA administrator needs.

The basics

What is an HSA or FSA?

Both are accounts that let you set aside money from your paycheck before taxes are taken out, to spend on qualified medical expenses. If you have one through your employer or your health plan, you may already have a balance sitting there.

HSA — Health Savings Account
Paired with a high-deductible health plan. Funds roll over year to year and stay yours if you change jobs.
FSA — Flexible Spending Account
Offered through your employer. Most plans are use-it-or-lose-it, so the balance often needs to be spent before the plan year ends.
Where Truemed fits
Truemed connects you with a licensed practitioner who can issue a Letter of Medical Necessity — the substantiation your plan administrator requires for wellness purchases.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Lean On really HSA/FSA eligible?

Eligibility is determined per customer, not per product. Through Truemed, a licensed practitioner reviews your health survey to determine whether your Lean On purchase qualifies as a medical expense for you. If it does, you'll receive a Letter of Medical Necessity and can pay with your HSA/FSA funds.

How much will I save?

Qualified customers save an average of about 30%, because HSA and FSA dollars are set aside before income tax. Your actual savings depend on your tax bracket and plan — we can't promise a specific number.

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?

It's a document from a licensed practitioner stating that a product supports the treatment or prevention of a medical condition. HSA and FSA administrators use it as substantiation for wellness purchases. Truemed emails yours after your survey is approved — keep it with your records.

What if I already placed my order?

You can still be reimbursed. Complete the Truemed survey, then submit your Letter of Medical Necessity along with your Lean On receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator for reimbursement.

Does this work on subscriptions?

Yes. Your Letter of Medical Necessity generally covers recurring purchases for the period it specifies, so you can keep using pre-tax funds on your ongoing Lean On orders.

What happens to my FSA money at the end of the year?

Most FSA plans are use-it-or-lose-it, meaning unspent funds don't carry over. If you have a balance and a deadline coming, an eligible Lean On order is one way to put it to use. Check your plan's specific rules and dates.

Can I use my regular credit card at checkout?

Always. Paying with HSA/FSA funds is an option, not a requirement — and if you don't have a health account, or your survey isn't approved, you can check out normally with any card.

Are there fees for using Truemed?

No. There's no added cost to you for completing the survey or receiving your Letter of Medical Necessity.

How long does the Letter of Medical Necessity take?

Usually minutes. It's emailed to you once the reviewing practitioner approves your survey — occasionally it takes a little longer if they need more information.

Is my health information private?

Yes. Your survey responses go to Truemed and the reviewing practitioner — Lean On never sees your health information. We only see that your order was approved for HSA/FSA payment.
